Some time has passed since the Universes Beyond: Fallout cards hit the Magic the Gathering scene. Because of that, some of the prices have come down. I finally found myself wanting to work up a commander deck themed around a giant robot. Lord help me if they ever make a Gundam visit the Multiverse...

We start with Mr. Democracy himself, Liberty Prime, Recharged. The colors of red, white, and blue mana don't run, but you will need some energy to keep Liberty Prime on the battlefield. That's where a lot of Fallout themed cards can actually help. Robobrain War Mind, Assaultron Dominator, and Rex, Cyber-Hound for example all create energy when they enter the battlefield. A lot of them have additional abilities if you have spare energy too.

A few non-Fallout themed cards help support democracy and energy generation, such as Tune the Narrative, Harnessed Lightning, and Glimmer of Genius. Bespoke Battlewagon taps for energy, as does Consulate Turret and Conversion Apparatus (if you pay some mana). What's even better? Nearly everything is an artifact, and there are cards to bring artifacts back from your graveyard too, reigniting that energy creation once again turns later. 

You may notice a lot of the cards are fairly inexpensive. In fact, I built a nearly complete version of this commander deck for about $35. Some cards I have to pick up still, such as Inventors' Fair, Teleportation Circle, and Darksteel forge. These are really strong cards to utilize when you have as many artifacts in your deck as this Liberty Prime does. Teleportation Circle lets you exile and return something every turn, unless someone removes it for example, and of course Darksteel Forge is going to protect everything. 

I urge you to take another look at some of the Universes Beyond cards as prices drop and challenge yourself to build a deck completely in theme (or as close as possible as I did) and have some fun with your friends!
